This movie was offbeat, and it took some directions that were odd, but the spirit of the film was golden. Self-sacrifice, humility, love and grace.

I don’t want to give away the plot, but it is known at the beginning that the sun is dying and the denizens of Earth are all in peril.

One man has the potential to save the day, but it might be a suicide mission, and it is such a long shot, that it, and the ship the man travels in, is called the Hail Mary.

There is a beautiful and totally unexpected song near the end of the movie; I recommend waiting until you see it to click on the link. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Kudos to Andy Weir for having the God-given genius to write the book (his’ The Martian is also a great story), and to Ryan Gosling, for doing a great job playing Ryland Grace; he was the perfect one for the part.

Here are links to the book and the movie.

(The author is agnostic, according to the internet, but I found great faith in the themes of his movie. If this was inadvertent, it does not diminish my experience; I wish him all the best)
