Don’t read your writing too often…

I have found that over-reading your writing, while it may produce better grammar and usage, can’t help but sully your opinion and appreciation of your own writing.

When I wrote my first book, there were turns of phrase that became too familiar as I reviewed my writing in stages. I try to edit tightly, but I don’t like to keep to close an eye other than for continuity.

Then, when I read the book after digital edits, to proof the hardcopy itself, the book is still fresh. I’m just learning this after about 15 years of writing, but it seems to hold true…
