So, I have been reading some books lately that have had some explicit content. I try to avoid that overall, but the writing has been good otherwise, so I’m in a bit of a quandary.

Do I keep reading the book, or do I find a different book?

I have been taking books back to the library and taking books back to the store to exchange for other books, but I’m finding that a lot of the better writers tend to have some content.

I don’t want to feed myself on stuff that’s going to bring me down, but I also don’t want to read writing that is unrealistic or trite. Thus my dilemma.

The two books in question are The Crossing (2015) by Michael Connelly and The 6:20 MAN (2022) by David Baldacci.

I finished the Michael Connelly book and found it to be very well written, and I’m halfway through the 6:20 MAN, and have tried to just ignore some of the more graphic sequences in the book.

One of the reasons I got into writing was because a writer that I enjoyed who wrote cleanly and extremely interestingly, stopped writing mysteries.

As I may have mentioned in the past, when he ceased writing mysteries, I decided to start writing them. I gave them a perspective of faith as he did, in an attempt to give someone a realistic and entertaining story that was also uplifting in some way.

The books I read by Connelly and Baldacci also have uplifting elements, but again there is some graphic content that I’m trying to avoid.

What do you think about this?

Does this type of thing bother you, or is this something that you don’t really tend to notice a lot?

I’m curious to know, and welcome your feedback.
