We need to rescind Net Billing and lower the cost of battery storage.
With extreme weather events, people need solar and battery storage.
California has mandated all electric vehicles by 2035, all new construction must have solar since 2020, and many jurisdictions are blocking new builds with gas service,
… and yet, the CPUC and Gavin Newsom have passed Net Billing (Net Energy Metering/NEM 3.0), a ruling that means homeowners buying enough solar to meet their home’s demand, will only offset about half of their PG&E bill, slowing needed renewable energy growth.
So which is it? Does California support renewable energy or not? Apparently, it’s both. When PG&E and the other utilities lobbied the CPUC to change NEM, they said it was to help low income folks whose bills have been driven higher by utility costs as a result of rooftop solar…
… and yet, despite NBT’s (Net Billing) passing the CPUC vote, PG&E is set to increase rates up to 27% by 2026.
Let’s have the state put its money where its mouth is: Repeal NBT now!
Tell the utilities they can’t rough up California utility consumers any longer
